It is a very special year as Yit Hong celebrates its 70th anniversary! Yit Hong was established in 1954 by my late grandfather, Mr Ngo Kai Tian and friends. Focusing on the import and sale of canned food products from China, and was located at No. 53 Telok Ayer Street.

In the mid-1950’s, the Narcissus factory in Xiamen was stuck with 5,000 cartons of canned Clams in brine, and was urgently looking for buyers. My grandfather seized the opportunity as he realized that his good friend in Sibu, Sarawak could help him to clear the stock. As many Chinese migrants there were from Fuzhou and would long for their favourite hometown ‘clams in noodle soup’. It worked and won Yit Hong the sole distributorship for the Narcissus Brand in Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei.

A memory that I can remember vividly as a little boy was my grandfather holding my hand while walking through the dirty streets along Telok Ayer one Sunday morning. The office was locked by both an iron gate and iron door. Although it was dark inside, in the left corner I could see a small yellow table light on. That was where my Grandfather presumably worked.

I grew up with Narcissus Canned Pork Leg with Mushrooms, Spiced Pork Cubes, Pickled Lettuce, Whole Mushrooms and Lychees just to name a few. Since young, I attended several local trade fairs, but never thought that one day I would take over the helm of Yit Hong.

In 1988, we moved to the nearby Grand Building at Phillip Street as our Telok Ayer Street oce was reclaimed by the government. Soon after, our warehouse at Robertson Quay too was re-zoned into a hotel site. As such, we had no choice but to move our entire operation to Jurong and have been there ever since.

In 2002, I was called to run the ‘Gallery Hotel’ by my late father, Mr Ngo Kheng Hoon. After initial hardships, we won several tourism awards and eventually sold it at a good profit in 2013.

10 years have since passed, and we are now solidly in the canned food business.

Based on Nielsen IQ surveys, our Narcissus Canned Pork, Mushroom categories, as well as our MaLing Canned Pork Luncheon Meat category remain No. 1 best sellers in Singapore.

Canned food is an essential product especially during a crisis. It is easy to store for long periods of time, and convenient to consume. This can be seen during the recent Covid-19 pandemic. As such, canned food will continue to play an important role in our daily life.

Our Vision is to work towards our centennial milestone. Therefore, our Mission is to ensure the safety and quality of the best canned food that we can bring to you and your loved ones for the years to come.

在时光的荏苒中，一丰迎来七十周年。这是品牌的丰厚历史和传统的见证。

一丰是由我已故祖父吴开添先生与友人在1954年共同创立，坐落于直落亚逸街53号，主营从中国进口罐头食品并在本地销售的生意。

五十年代中期，当时主产水仙花牌罐头的厦门罐头厂，有一批5000箱的水仙花牌清汤蛏罐头急需出售。联想到福州人非常喜欢吃清汤蛏配米粉汤，而东马砂劳越洲的诗巫地区的福州移民又特别多，因此祖父抓准这次机遇将这批货全部买下后，将其转卖给了他在诗巫的一位好友，顺利地帮助工厂解决了这些积压的库存，同时也赢得了中粮的信任，一丰公司也即被委任为新、马、汶水仙花牌罐头食品的独家经销商。

至今我仍能清晰记得，儿时某个周日的早晨，祖父牵着我的手，我们一起走过那些泥泞曲折的街道，一路走到直落亚逸街。公司外面是上了锁的大铁门和铁房门，朝里望去尽管是一片漆黑，但在左侧角落里却亮着一盏黄色的小台灯，那大概应该就是祖父工作的地方……

水仙花牌的每一罐都承载岁月的记忆，香菇猪脚腿、五香肉丁、蘑菇、香菜心、糖水荔枝等经典产品，一直陪伴着我们的成长。自小我也曾参加过几次本地的食品博览会，但从未想过有朝一日自己会接管公司的业务。

1988年，由于实施市区重建计划，一丰位于直落亚逸街的办公地点被政府征收。公司随后搬迁至附近位于菲立街的繁荣大厦。接着，因新加坡河畔已被政府规划为旅游区，所以当时位于罗拔申码头的一丰货仓则改建成了酒店 --- Gallery Hotel，一丰有限公司也于2000年整体搬迁至裕廊工业区至今日。

酒店成立之初，外聘人员的管理不善导致亏损，2002年应我父亲吴庆云先生的指示，我接管了Gallery Hotel业务的经营。经过团队的一番奋斗，我们的这家精品酒店获得了新加坡旅游局的多个奖项，并于2013年以良好盈利顺利脱售。

10年的时间转瞬即逝，我司依然专注于罐头食品领域并打下坚实基础。

根据Nielsen IQ市场调查公司的数据，水仙花牌猪肉类罐头、蘑菇和梅林牌午餐肉，一直是新加坡市场保持销量第一的品牌。

七十年间，公司坚守诚信、品质、传统原味。从创立之初，一丰就以稳健可靠的态度在罐头领域蜕变成为新马地区的老字号，展现了靠谱的商业精神。

一丰的愿景是向公司百年里程碑努力前行，而我们的使命，则是确保让您和您所关爱的人能继续享用安全且最优质的罐装美食。
